★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 258 reviews · 2 hours 30 minutes (approx.) · from $69

Paddle a canoe along the Llangollen Canal and across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the world’s tallest aqueduct. Your instructor teaches basic strokes, shares local facts, and keeps the pace relaxed, with games possible. The session suits beginners, families with children aged 6 and up, and even dogs. Expect about 2 hours 30 minutes, including time around the water.

“Was a great experience despite some inclement weather. Was glad we stuck to the two hours though as we were quite tired by the end. I think some of the participants would have appreciated a little more instruction on how to paddle straight as some seemed very new to canoeing. I didn’t appreciate having to lumber my canoe 100 yards down the path and into the water but with only 1 instructor we didn’t have much choice.”

You get a board, paddle, wetsuit, and buoyancy aid. No experience is needed, and the group is limited to eight people. Guide James may also add local wildlife and history to the outing.

“James was a great guide with a real interest and knowledge of wildlife and local history. I would say the Paddleboarding isn’t for the faint hearted actually, and if you’re unfit, even tougher. I was surprised how hard going it was on mildly choppy water, having only done it on still lakes and calm tropical sea before! Falling in with a helmet, life vest, wetsuit and trainers on wasn’t pleasant anlthough appreciate H&S takes priority for any of these businesses. Highlight was seeing an adult seal and a youngster which was totally unexpected. Would probably chose kayaking in future due to fitness level!”

He put us at ease from the moment we pulled through the gate, told us great corny jokes, and was so informative about the aqueduct, the local area, even Wales and the rest of the UK. Highly recommend Mike and this trip - 10/10!!”

The winds picked up by the end of the outing, but Woody had engineered our trajectory such that we were blown back to our starting point by the gently increasing breeze.”
